It’s sandal wearing season and you’ve just found the perfect pair. But after months of winter weather, neglect and indoor heating, your feet definitely need a little TLC before you show them off over these next few months.

Are your feet ready for the summer sun or poised to ruin your summer fun? Here are three simple steps that are key to having beautiful, picture perfect feet this summer, no Instagram filter required.

Soak

In addition to being one of the greatest things you can do for your feet, relaxing and allowing your feet to soak in warm water for 10 minutes can do wonders for calming your nerves.  A DIY foot soak can be done in a basin or bowl big enough to put both feet in at once. Just fill it two-thirds of the way with warm water and add a cup of epsom salt.  You can also add herbs and essential oils for scent as well as to help with the dryness.  Peppermint, chamomile, and aloe vera are all excellent choices for this.

Exfoliate

Runners and urban commuters who choose to walk from place to place know all too well the punishment their feet go through in a typical week’s time, and the callouses that can result from it. A pumice stone is a chunk of hardened lava foam and is an excellent way to rid your feet of dry, cracked, and calloused skin.  Emollients that contain salicylic acid (THERAPLEX - FT PEPPERMINT EXFOLIATING EMOLLIENT) are also effective in exfoliating your feet, and can be used in combination with a pumice stone for maximum effect.  For best results, you should exfoliate your feet at least two times weekly.

Moisturize

It’s easy to forget your feet when you moisturize, particularly because they’re often covered and out of sight (“out of sight, out of mind”).  So as soon as you step out of the shower or tub, be sure to slather on a moisturizer(THERAPLEX - BARRIER BALM; THERAPLEX - HEALING EMOLLIENT) that is specially formulated to work on dry, rough feet.  Reapply again at night before bedtime for extra soft feet when you wake up in the morning. Remember -- your feet go through a lot in a day, so don’t leave them out of your daily care routine.  With a few weeks worth of soaking, exfoliating and moisturizing, your feet should be soft and show-worthy just in time for summer’s heat.
